New Horizons in the Outer Solar System
The outer solar systemà isà the region of spaceà beyond the planet Neptune,à and the last frontier. The Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft have passed beyond the orbit of Neptune, but have not encountered any more worlds. That all changed with theà New Horizons mission.à The spacecraft spent 10 years flying out to Pluto, and then swept past the ââ¬â¹dwarf planetà on July 14, 2015. It not only looked at Pluto and its fiveà known moons, but the spacecrafts cameras mapped part of the surface. Other instruments concentrated on finding out more about the atmosphere. New Horizons magesà show that Pluto has a complex surfaceà with icy plains made of nitrogen ice, surrounded by jagged mountains consisting mostly of water ice. It turns out that Pluto was far more fascinating than anyone expected!à Now that it has passed Pluto, New Horizonsà will explore the Kuiper Belt ââ¬â a region of the solar system that stretches out beyond the planet Neptune andà populated with so-calledà Kuiper Belt Objectsà (KBOs). The best-known KBOs areà dwarf planetsà Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, Eris, and Haumea.à The mission has been approved to visit another dwarf planet called 2014 MU69, and will sweep past it on January 1, 2018. Luckily, this little world lies right along the missions flight path.à In the far distant future,à New Horizonsà will enter the fringes of the Oort Cloud (the shell of icy particles that surrounds the solar system, named forà astronomer Jan Oort).à After that, it will traverse space forever.à New Horizons:à Itsà Eyes and Earsââ¬â¹ New Horizonsà science instruments were designed to answer questions about Pluto, such as: what does its surface look like? What surface features does it have, such as impact craters or canyons, or mountains?à Whats in its atmosphere? Lets take a look at the spacecraft and its specialized eyes and ears that have shown us so much about Pluto.à Ralph:à a high-resolution mapper with visible and infrared cameras to gather data that will help create very good maps of Pluto and Charon. Alice:à an imaging spectrometer sensitive to ultraviolet light, and built to probe Plutoââ¬â¢s atmosphere. A spectrometer separates light into its wavelengths, like a prism does. Aliceà works to produce an image of the target at each wavelength, and will be able to study the ââ¬Å"airglowâ⬠at Pluto. Airglow happens when gases in the atmosphere are excited (heated). Alice will track light from a distant star or the Sun through Plutoââ¬â¢s atmosphere to pick out wavelengths of light absorbed by Plutos air, which tells us what the atmosphere contains. REX:à short for radio experiment. It contains sophisticated electronics and is part of the radio telecommunications system. It can measure the weak radio emission from Pluto, and take the temperature of its night side.à LORRI:à the Long Range Reconnaissance Imager,a telescope with a 8.2-inch (20.8-centimeter) aperture that focuses visible light onto a charge coupled device (CCD). Near the time of closest approach, LORRI was built to look at Plutos surface at football-field size resolution.You can see some early images from LORRI here. Pluto travels through the solar wind, a stream of charged particles sweeping out from the Sun. So, New Horizons has the Solar Wind Around Pluto (SWAP) detector to measure charged particles from the solar wind to determine whether Pluto has a magnetosphere (a zone of protection created by its magnetic field) and how fast the Plutonian atmosphere is escaping. New Horizons has another plasma-sensing instrument called the Pluto Energetic Particle Spectrometer Science Investigation (PEPSSI). It will search for neutral atoms that escape Plutos atmosphere and subsequently become charged by their interaction with the solar wind. New Horizons involved college students from the University of Colorado as builders of the Venetia Burney Student Dust Counter, which counts and measures the sizes of dust particles in interplanetary space.

Objective There are many websites and newspapers giving predictions in this direction, but there is no tool which can give mathematical analysis about the races. For my Data Mining Project I will use a database collected from www. Greyhound-data. Land of Birth 4. Land of Standing 5. Year of birth 6. Sex ââ¬â male or female 7. Sire ââ¬â fatherââ¬â¢s name 8. Dam ââ¬â motherââ¬â¢s name (the last two dimensions are considered important in ambling) 9. Races ââ¬â the number of races for 2014 10. Points ââ¬â how many points each dog heave accumulated in 2014 11. Bag Didst ââ¬â the average distance of races. All the details are based on 2014 statistics collected from the website up mentioned. On top of these dimensions I manually added three more: 1. Weight ââ¬â in Keg 2. Owner 3. Color The last three heave missing data, which make the dataset noisy but I will try to find the best way to recover the missing data. After importing the dataset in Dynamiting from an Excel file, first I analyses the data, then I separated clean data from dirty ATA (no_missing_attributes function). As a result, only 29 items were perfect data, while 71 had missing values (noisy). As we can see in the picture the missing values are highlighted in red. Removing Noise First method used to remove the noise is using the ââ¬Å"averageâ⬠function provided by Reprimanded. A graphical representation of the design of this method can be seen in the next picture. With this method I replaced ââ¬Å"allâ⬠missing values with the ââ¬Å"averageâ⬠. Generate a Sample Next step is to generate a sample of six items because this is the number of dogs competing in a race. This sample is random generated and the result is: As we can see highlighted in red the national rank is close, which means that the race will be very tight and very hard to predict as well. In the last results I noticed that there is some data that I do not need to use for my final analysis and I decided to remove it. To do this I used ââ¬Å"Remove Useless Attributesâ⬠as shown in the next picture: Then the results will look like this: Now is more simple to read data, with only 12 dimensions left. Phase 3 ââ¬â The Results In this part I will try to predict which of the six dogs will win the race. I will use two ethos, one is the ââ¬Å"Aggregateâ⬠function and the other is ââ¬Å"Attribute Generationâ⬠. First, I decided to remove some of the attributes as not all of them are actually needed for this operation. To do this, I used ââ¬Å"Select Attributeâ⬠function, as shown in the picture below. Six attributes will be enough for the next operation and final operation to find the winner. Next, I will use ââ¬Å"Aggregateâ⬠operator and I will use the attribute ââ¬Å"pointsâ⬠to generate the winner. After I add this operator in the design window, one click is needed to display its functions on the right hand sand. After I clicked on ââ¬Å"Edit Listâ⬠, a Indo opened, where I selected the attribute ââ¬Å"Pointsâ⬠on the left and the ââ¬Å"maximumâ⬠function on the left (next picture). Now we can run the process to see the result: As we can see, based on ââ¬Å"Pointsâ⬠, the possible winner is the number one dog on the list because he has the highest number of points. This result can be considered, as the points accumulated are the most important decisional factor when we want to check the ââ¬Å"favoriteâ⬠for a dog race. But because the points are not the only factor to consider, another method has to be found. Next, I will present another solution, which looks even more interesting. It involves weighting the more than one attribute and this is why this method looks better. I removed ââ¬Å"Aggregateâ⬠operator and I added another two instead: ââ¬Å"Set Roleâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Generate Attributeâ⬠. I used Set Role attribute to generate a label (picture below ââ¬â on the right), in this case I choose name. In the next picture is described the Generate Attribute operator. I clicked ââ¬Å"Edit Listâ⬠(number 1) on the right hand side and a new window opened. In this window, new attributes can be generated. At number 2 is defined the new attribute name which is ââ¬Å"Winnerâ⬠in my case, than at number 3 a formula is introduced. The formula weights three attributes ââ¬Å"Weightâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Racesâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Distanceâ⬠. Based on them, Reprimanded will calculate a score for each dog. The results are shown in the next picture In red is highlighted the winner, number one ââ¬â Austrian Lisa, and in black is the new generated attribute ââ¬â ââ¬Å"Winnerâ⬠, which shows the results for all the competitors. Conclusions This model can be used betting companies like Powdery for example to generate odds for example, but it can be used as well by people who have a passion for gambling. It can be also used to build a website which calculates the winners for future races and attract visitors this way. There is no comprehensive rule that can tell you when a model is good enough, or when you have enough data. Accuracy is a measure of how well the model correlates an outcome with the attributes in the data that has been provided. There are various measures of accuracy, but all measures of accuracy are dependent on the data that is used. In reality, values might be missing or approximate, or the data might have been changed by multiple processes.
